About the event
This class is an all levels Mysore style class taught through the lens of the Kripalu Yoga lineage. The first half-hour of this class will include 20-30 minutes of guided meditation and pranayama (breathwork) with the intention of stimulating presence, awareness, and movement for each participant's personal yoga practice which students will be guided into after the period of meditation and breathwork. During the personal practice time, YogiJay will be available for any questions and assistance you may have/need regarding your personal practice. Feel free to stay the whole time or leave when you're ready. Participants are welcome to hang out by the fire after class and enjoy each other's company in a safe and socially distanced manner!
From a teaching perspective, Mysore differs from the usual way of teaching yoga. The class is not "led" as a whole, but rather all instruction is one-on-one within the group class setting. Students practice their own sequence of asanas at their own pace. The teacher assists each student individually as needed. Mysore is typically taught as part of the Ashtanga Yoga tradition however in this class it will be taught through the lens of the Kripalu tradition. Kripalu Yoga is a form of Hatha Yoga that combines asana, meditation, and pranayam to raise prana (the life force). The intention of the Kripalu style of practice is to strengthen one's container (physically, mentally, emotionally, and energetically) to more effectively navigate the waves of life.
Logistics
Bring your own mat, mask, and water. While there will be a fire pit set up, we encourage layers as it does get chilly when the sun goes down this time of year. Masks are not required during practice but should be worn when social distance cannot be maintained. Please plan to arrive 10-15 minutes prior to class to allow enough time to set up.
Registration and Cost
Please pre-register to reserve your spot. You can drop in however, the class is limited to 30 participants and we expect registration to fill quickly.
This is a donation-based class with a suggested donation of $15/participant. Donations can be made in Cash or via Venmo @yogijay or by using the following QR Code below.
Pay what you can. We hope that the donation-based nature of the class encourages those with the income to do so, to support others who may not have enough to afford the standard drop-in rate for a yoga class. Everyone deserves yoga and we hope you can help us in making yoga accessible to all! We are a community and as a community, we all live better when we work together and use our privilege to lift others up!
